Day 05

DAY 5 Wind blew all night, but started to let up at dawn and finally died down to cold breeze. Off and on cloudy all day, a little snow while packing and again just after 3 in tent. Cold day! 1 hour back to Slickhorn #1, road dried out. About 50 minutes to camp, just above the big pouroff down into Slickhorn. Found water, set up camp. Cold ass breeze comes from north about 3. Short hike (less than an hour) along rim to Shady House, find way down to it, then back to camp. Pump water, put some logs around vestibule to block breeze coming under. About 5 I get bored, go for a little walk up on ridge, find Pendant Village, hilltop pottery and rocks, grinding bin (?), cool little pendant. Freezing cold, go back and fix dinner. 36 in tent now (6:00). Got a little warmer when breeze quit at sundown, but definitely going to be a frosty night. Heard coyotes, heard and saw some cows. Lots of cow sign. Going to (hopefully) go down Slickhorn #1 tomorrow and see the kiva and a few others. Cleared off, so it’ll be cold tonight but hoping for nice day tomorrow.
