Day 07

DAY 7 Nice morning, very nice day, mild evening (still cold, but nicest so far). 51 in tent at 7:30 and clear skies outside. Left at 10, 30 minutes cross country to road, 30 minutes down road, 75 minutes down 4x4 trail/old road to wash at bottom of Hat Flat. Nice scenery, good views to south, can even see tops of Monument Valley and Navajo Mountain is big to the SW. Very open through here. Got to camp area, found good spot on bench, no water. Saw some cows, started up wash. Long hike. Finally found a fairly new looking trough that I got water from, then had to carry it all the way back to my camp. About 2 hours round trip. After that, set up camp, pumped water, checked out village site I saw earlier (Sandy Village), plenty of pottery and even more worked stone, but nothing super exciting. Finally cooked at 6, wand while eating in tent heard coyotes howling very close by, but saw nothing when I got back out to clean pan. Pretty mild day, water hike was a bit of a pain. Hopefully this nice weather continues. Going to Water Canyon tomorrow, hike doesn’t look too long, 2+ hours and hopefully water is easier to find.
