Day 03

DAY 3 Long night, stomach tried to kill me in the middle of the night. Only got down to about 30 in the night, rather than 20 like the night before. Up about 7:20, nice day but cool breeze in AM. Left 9:20 to hike down Slickhorn #4. Found ruin (Pyramid House) about 30-40 minutes down, very nice shape. After that, came to huge pouroff, way down on left (LDC) but covered by snow, so I took bench on right side. Found 2 more ruins – Muddy Hands Ruins, bunch of smashed rooms, one decent big room with log walls, some small granaries, lots of “muddy” rock art. 5 minutes later, still on ledge, find Roofed Ruin, 4 rooms, 3 still had roofs (2 of which were perfect). Followed ledge around into side canyon, found way down into main canyon, walked downcanyon to Wooden Kiva (Swamp House), ate lunch, then came back. At the top of the side canyon, found Cyst Alcove, bunch of cysts carved in dirt/rock with one half-assed structure. Climbed onto mesatop and followed trails back to camp. Back at 2:30 – 5 hour day. Very warm afternoon, got water, relaxed. Clouded up a bit after 5, milder evening (still cold, 50 in tent at 7:40) Probably staying here on more night, going to try to go down #6 to Big Ledge tomorrow.
