Day 03
Wind started blowing in the night, and blew hard all day. Still blowing as I go to bed. Slept in, breakfast, went hiking from 9:30 to 12. Went to #2, found Barely-a-ruin Ruin, then Great Bird Panel (which is way up ramp immediately inside canyon, just past ruin). From #2, went across the top into #3. Saw Steep Lookout House, but declined to climb up to it. Instead went to the rim. Nice view of course, but the wind was unbelievable. Never been camping and had it this windy for this long. Retreated to tent and regrouped, then went north to #5. Stopped and checked #4.7 (empty), then up to #5. Found Strange Rock Art, must be somewhat more modern (Ute or Navajo?). Finally climbed up a long bench to Dry Lip Ruin. Located right under a lid near the top of the ridge, consisted of two built-up floor segments and little else. Visible from the road, so probably looted long ago. Very good views to east. Back to camp and got water from waterhole I used last time, which I found this morning. Back to tent at sundown, mad dinner, 1st time I've ate in tent so far. -Also found Cowboy Ruin on rim of #4.4. Low wall along cliff edge, other spots blocked with crude masonry and cut branches. Some sort of corral? Also found a spur just north of the mouth of #3.
