Day 00 and 01
Day 0 - Drove from Lehi to Castle Dale, got my mom and drove down to the Butler Wash roadside ruin. Cold and very windy. Walked to overlook with Mom, then by myself north into Kickass Canyon. Climbed up on to the north side of the canyon and camped.
Day 1 – Found piece of Black on White pottery first thing in the morning. Walked up the head fork of Butler Wash, first on west rim (number of sites, pottery and worked stone in abundance). Followed stream up to second fork, then had to climb around some narrows (not difficult). Near the head of the canyon I found a very nice ruin I called Tower Shell Ruin. A dug out Kiva under one overhang, and in the other overhang a small room with a partial roof, and a 2 story, thickly built tower. Nice lintels, all 4 walls complete, the roof has fallen in and taken out the middle floor. Very nice and very unexpected. Climb out of the top of the canyon, saw a group from Far Out Expeditions. Across the ridge (nice views of Abajo and Allen canyon. Down long side canyon to south fork of Whiskers Draw. Camp late, nice spot. Very cold that night. Hear owl outside my tent.
