Day 02
Day 2 - Lazy day. Walk a little ways up Buck Canyon - too overgrown, don't feel like fighting my way through it. A ways up Pasture Canyon, but its also overgrown and hot and uninspiring. Go up small canyon between them, super nice, water in 5 or 6 spots, shade, nice walls, ends at dry fall with small pool 20 minutes up. 2 Caves near the top - one big and empty, the other smaller and containing the mummified body of a coyote. Call it Dead Coyote Canyon. Pumped water and hung out by spring all afternoon. Lots of birds, butterflies, lizards (some very large), 1 toad. Very faded and crumbly petroglyphs on the wall facing the river immediately north of Dead Coyote Canyon. Piece of pottery lying on a ledge near the mouth of Buck Canyon, the only piece of Fremont pottery I have ever found. On prow above Buck to the north is very nice petroglyph panel - the Duel Panel. Extremely hot all day. Also saw 2 Ekker inscriptions just inside the mouth of Pasture (north side).
