Day 03

Day 3 - Cool morning, but quickly gets just as hot as its been (90s at least). Take off about 9, cross river (going upriver) and traverse a long bottom, then go up the Middle Sand Slide. Hit the road again, see that the VW bus is gone, walk back past where I started, then along the rim of Hell Hole Canyon and down the Upper Sand Slide into the mouth of Hell Hole. Petroglyphs, faded and some obscured by runoff, and 2 inscriptions from the 1880's. Cross river and find very nice petroglyphs, but not the pictographs that are supposed to be there. Buck up the sand slide, back along road to Lower Sand Slide (going about 4 times faster than 2 days before). Take other side of Sand slide down, scouting tomorrows route downriver. Head back to spring in Dead Coyote Canyon and spend a couple of hours getting water, then back to camp, dinner, and bed. Hot day!
