Day 10
Day 10 - Disastrous day! Everything started OK - cloudy and breezy, but no rain. Got to the river in under two hours. At river, disaster #1 - the river has gone up and down since I went into Robbers Roost 6 days ago, and has left a lot of new mud everywhere. Beach I crossed at to get in is gone. Muddy, obnoxious chore getting back across. Back at food stash, disaster # 2 - rodents have eaten 2 holes into my drybag and eaten 5 dinners and 3 breakfasts. So then and there the trip is terminated. 4 days of food gone, 40+ river crossings thru 2 feet of mud 20 feet across on both banks - No thank you. So I head for Angel Cove, my backpack again heavy. Took upper route, though you could probably get around on the bottom as well, Climbed down to the river, into Angel Cove (trail really sucks, probably won't last much longer). Nice campsite, but litter around. Saw panel of petroglyphs (Barrier Canyon style) on south or downriver end of the giant overhang across from Robbers Roost Canyon. Faint, but looked similar to Horseshoe Canyon. Also nearby was pictographs, faint and crude, along trail just south of the overhang. In camp read a lot, was pissed, got over it, ate most of my candy, and drank all my hot chocolate.
