Day 02

Day 2 - Cold morning, slept poorly. Climb back down to canyon bottom, walk downcanyon, look at EC1 (muddy), then take north trail into Chesler Park. Some handprint pictographs near beginning of trail. Fun trail until last climb into Chesler Park. Long slope with snow and ice. Have to use my trekking poles as ice axes once to get up a steep part. Hike around north end of park, very scenic, views into Elaterite Basin and the Henrys. Another fun slickrock trail down to road. Eat lunch, then up the road a bit to its end. Take the trail back up to the Joint Trail. Very cool - first part is a tunnel, then about 5 minutes down a long crack, about 2-3' wide and about 60-70' deep. Other joints branch off, some of which are big enough to squeeze down a ways. Hopefully got some good video. Pop out at the south end of Chesler Park, cross it, then down a steep, snowy canyon back into Elephant Canyon. 15 minutes back downcanyon to my camp. (Check out EC3, also muddy. EC2 is the best site, maybe EC1 if it is going to be hot). Cold again after sunset, but not as bad as last night.
