Day 07
Day 7 - Cloudy morning, on and off clouds all day, sometimes hot, sometimes cold and windy. Spotted granary 15 minutes up from my camp, looks inaccessible. Spotted a rock art panel (pictographs) just before Angel Arch sidecanyon and a campsite I could have used. Trail is more defined after leaving the old road, but a lot of undergrowth. Spotted another granary, then another, then a larger ruin that I really wished I'd had time to investigate. Came to the West Fork and had to bushwack my way in. Very wide, sandy wash that I trudged up for about 45 minutes. Spotted 2 more structures just up the canyon. Sand finally turned into a boulder-strewn ravine, and plenty of water, which put me at ease. Boulders ended at a 30' pourover, climbed around. Canyon finally opened up and some campsites. Found a little puddle just above pouroff and camped. Regular routine - set up tent, got water, read and smoked. Gray rock that is the streambed has lots of tiny fossils. Scared and was scared by a deer (I think) as I was getting in my tent. Cold night. A little stressed about tomorrow - have to find water and the pass. May prove to be a long day.
