Day 4

Day 4 - Nice morning, a little cool. Got a good start, feeling much better. Went 2 hours without stopping. Hot!! Less than an hour to Long Canyon, found rock art on the upriver end of its bottom. Saw a huge snake, 5 feet at least. After Long Canyon, the gorge gets much tighter and tamarisks get thicker. Crossed river only once, bit of a bushwhack. Probably should have crossed more often, but still made it to Water Canyon just after 12. Very dry, nowhere to camp by river, so I end up just up the canyon. Storm blew through in the afternoon, rained some and blew like crazy, but I just lay in my tent and read. Think my gut has finally adjusted to the water (I hope). Bugs bad after the storm, but disappear when it starts getting dark. Lots of falling rock. Lots of shade due to the tightness of the canyon. Plenty o' bats.
