Day 5

Day 5 - Slept in, late start. Found one panel of rock art (2 sheep) just upriver from Water Canyon, the skeleton of either a young deer or bighorn. Hiked only an hour, less than a third of a mile from Trail Canyon and found a really nice campsite so I decided to stop. Might be the spot where we stopped on the kayak trip and I put on the wetsuit. Hot when the sun is out, cooler when haze is overhead. Another lazy afternoon. Read a lot and ate a ton. Clouded up about 4, started blowing and raining about 5, lots of dramatic thunder and lightning. Rained and rained. River flashed about 7:30. Made dinner in the rain under a tree. Got out at 9 to clean pan, just as I did, river started rising rapidly, heading for my tent. Had to drag everything up the hill in the dark and rain and mud. Continued to rain off and on throughout the night.
