Smith Cabin March 2008

I did a shuttle for Tracy (from the Grand Canyon trip) and his friends and family on Saturday. They kayaked the Price River from Woodside down to the Green, and I took the vehicle out to the Reef for the day and hiked around. I finally went and checked out the Smith Cabin, which I had been by a couple of times before, but never stopped at. Then I tried to do the hike from Steve Allen's Canyoneering called Acers Arch and the Horsethief Trail. However, when I went due west from the parking location, I ran into a maze of canyons and some strenuous hiking. When I eventually worked my way through them and to the rim, I was a little ways up Spring Canyon. I followed a trail back down the Reef, and it led me back to Smith Cabin, so if you are just interested in getting to the rim without climbing, just go to Smith Cabin and head up the trail on the south side of the canyon right by the cabin. Never did find Acer Arch, I was too far north and didn't have time to look for it.
